Although a lot of women play games now days, I know many who don’t and I think that’s a shame. I know guys who don’t game as well, but I feel like society gives them the opportunity to game with friends, whereas girls can feel excluded from traditional PC/console games. It’s probably getting easier for the younger generation, but I know that for people in their 20s-30s+, there can be a barrier.
I was lucky enough to have access to DOS and NES games from a young age, but I still remember the first time I played a fps PC game, I felt so awkward, I was sure I’d never get the hang of the whole mouse+keyboard WASD thing. But I did, and it’s like riding a bike, easy once you get the hang of it and it opens up a whole new world of fun experiences.
So if you have a friend, girlfriend, family member who doesn’t game, I’m going to list some games here that might help you introduce her to them.
Description from the game devs:
Overcooked is a co-op cooking game for 1-4 players. Working as a team, you and your fellow chefs must prepare, cook and serve up a variety of tasty orders before the baying customers storm out.
I think this is a great game to introduce someone to console gaming. It’s social and fun, and because it’s a co-op game, even if someone is struggling, you can work as a team to help them out. Tasks break down easily, so if someone’s new to gaming and/or consoles, it would be quite easy to learn one or two small tasks and then slowly build from there.
Multi-player co-op, local (i.e. not online), PS4, PC, good for friends, families, couples, beginners
